Friday!

Today at MTV was very fun, but not as busy as usual. I got there around 9, sent out some emails to schools, and headed over to the SAP (Summer Associate Program) meeting. We did a really fun personality test, where we guessed where we were on the quadrants. But after taking an actual quiz, many found out they were completely opposite of what they thought. It was cool! I ended up being expressive :). Which is true....afterwards we got lunch, went back and got some last minute things done, and then it was time for the weekend!

I think I'm meeting with my roommate Megan tomorrow in the City! Hopefully!

Ok, time to head out- bye!

Life update!

Ok, so the Yankees game on Monday was soo much fun!! I want to go another game ASAP!

Tuesday at Likeable, I finished up more content for our Neutrogena Choose Skin Health Facebook page! Also got to work more with blurts, which is going to be an awesome new addition for people who use Twitter! So, also as an update- I now work Wednesday-Friday at MTV, instead of Thurs-Fri. Today was tons of fun! We (HR dept) put together an intern kick-off and had a great turnout. Around 300 interns showed up and a really awesome indie pop group called Givers performed. If you're into indie pop, you should definitely check out their music. They also just performed at Bonnaroo which is pretty sweet.

Tomorrow I'm heading out to lunch with all of my supervisors- I still haven't picked the place, woops! Probably should get on that!

Lethe visits for the weekend!

This weekend was so much fun! My roommate from JMU, Lethe, visited me and we had such a good time together! On Friday night, we met up with one of my friends from Likeable Media and went to a bar in Times Square called The Mean Fiddler. The downstairs had karaoke, and the upstairs was a big bar with a ton of TVs and a dance floor. We had a good time. Saturday morning we woke up early, grabbed a bagel from downstairs, and headed to SoHo to do some shopping! :) I am about a 15 minute walk from SoHo which is awesome, because they have so many great stores. We literally shopped from about 12 until 8 at night. Then the two of us headed to a bar across the street from my dorm called Bar None and just chilled out. It was super crowded, but also a good time. Finally, yesterday, we headed to Times Square to walk around and do a little more shopping. Let's just say no more shopping for me for at least 2 weeks! I uploaded some pictures from the weekend below!

As for today, I got to do a lot of Neutrogena content today, and although I had won Kid Cudi tickets for tonight, I can't go because none of my roommates are above 21. BUT, I did get free tickets to tonight's Yankees game at work and am currently waiting for my suitemate to get home, so we can hopefully go together!! I really want to go to a game! Anyways, that's all for this weekend/today!

Getting close to wrapping up the week!

So yesterday at Likeable Media was fun! I finally got my Pacman video the way I want it. Now it's not very good, but hey at least I tried! Here's the link to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_kbDekxIG8. Let me know what you think! :) Other than creating a new video for our contest, I also monitored the Pendaflex Twitter account and tried to engage with people who were talking about cleaning, messy rooms, spring cleaning, etc.

The best part of yesterday was going to my CEO, Dave Kerpen's book launch at the Yotel! I met back up at Likeable with a bunch of buzz builders and we stopped to grab some food before heading over. The party was on top of the Yotel's beautiful rooftop and there was such a great crowd. Everyone really seemed to be enjoying themselves, and it was fun getting to know everyone better and just hanging out!

I got a lot accomplished at MTV today. The first highlight of the day was heading over to our 1540 office and meeting up with someone from the LOGO Digital Marketing department. I was able to speak with her and figure out what they are looking for in their interns and so on. Not too long after, I grabbed lunch in the lodge (for MTV staff, and at a discounted price). Wow- is the food their delicious or what! I had some really good wings. I also had the chance to meet with VH1 On-Air Promos. Their job is totally awesome. Anyways, I have a paper to finish up for my online class, and have to be up early tomorrow for work!

My roommate Lethe is coming tomorrow for the weekend- sooo excited! Night readers :)

1st & 2nd day at Likeable!

Likeable has been quite hectic these past two days. Yesterday, I did various work for my supervisor Sida. I created some contests for our clients, went through the entries that we had received thus far, searched for some social media articles, and created a Twitter for the CEO of our client, Blurt.

Today, I took over the Entenmann's twitter page, which was fun. I also ate at this delicious sushi place that had a lunch box for only $8.50 and a bunch of food :). Yum! We also got to do a fun project today- creating stuff out of Pendaflex products (another one of our clients). The winner of the contest gets an iPad for best video and the a nano for best picture. Pretty sweet I'd say. I made a video that still needs some tweaking- once it's finished I'll be sure to post it!

Tonight will just consist of more working out, eating, homework, and sleep! Hopefully I'll get the chance to get in a couple of my shows before I head to bed :)

Friday & Saturday festivities!

Sorry I didn't get the chance to update everyone about my 2nd day at MTV, but with orientation at Likeable Media, and having to write a big paper for my online Food Communication class, thinks have been quite hectic around here!

Anyways, Friday at MTV was awesome again, which I wasn't surprised about! :) I arrived around 9 a.m. and logged into my email (I have my own MTV email-woohoo) to check-up on my tasks for the day! Many of them were on-going things that need to be finished, but overall, Andrea and I got a LOT done! First, we headed off to another Summer Associate Program (SAP) meeting, where we had some delicious breakfast, and had the chance to listen to each of the graduates share a little about themselves, as well as their biggest accomplishment. This group of grads are so awesome- they have all done some wonderful things both within and outside of their schools. I was so impressed, and it is no wonder that they were chosen out of hundreds and hundreds of people to get offered this amazing experience. After learning more about them, the grads were split into groups and there team-building skills were put to the test with an activity where they were required to build the biggest tower they could using dried spaghetti and marshmallows. It was interesting seeing how both groups strategized. After the activity, I got the chance to tour the different floors of MTV with the SAP's. Every floor is so amazing- some floors are filled with toys and clothes all Nickelodeon, others have tons of pictures of famous stars, some have reality show themes, and so forth and so on. Loved it!

I said my goodbyes to the group before making my way back to the 35th floor to get some jobs done! I went through hundreds of resumes to get a feel for what Mallory and Andrea look for when selecting a possible student to interview. It was really cool seeing how different every person's resume was and the different places they have worked at and experienced. After, Andrea and I took a lunch break and headed over to this sushi place called Haru, which is right around the corner. It was so delicious and it was so nice getting to sit down and talk to Andrea one-on-one talking about anything and everything! Once back at the office, we put together a ton more folders for Mallory and Andrea's orientations that they will be giving Monday and Tuesday. Got a few more things done for the day, and headed home! Got the chance to go out for a little bit around the corner, but both my suitemate and I were exhausted, plus I had to get up for Likeable Media orientation, so we didn't explore as much as I'd hoped.

When I got to the Likeable Media office yesterday, it was filled with a variety of students! There were probably over 60 of us. We all went around the room and introduced ourselves, said our school and major, and our favorite brand. I chose Michael Kors ;). We then learned a little bit more about the company, and split up into our teams to find out more about our clients. My group has clients ranging from Neutrogena, Entenmann's, Visit Salt Lake, Blurt, Pendaflex, and Extra Space. I'm excited to experience and see how each company uses social media, as well as what clients I will be assigned to work on! We then got served some awesome pizza, and split up into meetings to learn more about how they use Facebook, Twitter, Radian6, Wildfire, HootSuite, Powerpoint etc. to accomplish their tasks. Orientation finished up around 4.

Unfortunately for me, I didn't get the chance to go out last night, because I had to write a paper for my online class. It's okay though- it was nice to just relax, and sleep in, and I know I'll have plenty more chances to go out and experience the city! I start at Likeable tomorrow at 10! I'll update after work, unless something amazing happens today that needs blogging. :)

Orientation & 1st day at MTV!

Today was an AMAZING day! I woke up around 8 a.m. and began getting ready. Chose this for my first day outfit and I was out the door!

I arrived at orientation around 9:45 a.m. this morning and was greeted by both of my supervisors, Mallory and Andrea, who were holding first day orientation! Both of them were so excited to meet me, and I can't wait to work more with them! We went through basic rules and regulations of MTV/Viacom Networks and I was able to learn more about the company. It's crazy how many things we watch on TV or see online on a daily basis that are a part of MTV/Viacom Networks that you would have no idea of! You can see a list of all of their brands here! Afterwards, all of the interns for today's orientation gathered around to take a picture. Here we are! I'm near the top left in turquoise!
Once all that was done, I went and sat in on a meeting with Mallory and Andrea to listen to previous alumni talk to the new members of the Summer Associate Program. It was great hearing all of their advice and tips! Then, I was introduced to our floor (woo 35th floor) and was shown to my very own cubicle/desk area! Soo exciting :). They also had a few gifts waiting for me at my desk as well which was so sweet.

Afterwards, I stood in line to get my very own ID for the building. Here's an official picture of it!!

I then went and spoke with Mallory about daily tasks that I'll be doing over the summer, such as helping conduct interviews, attending seminars and summer associate meetings, etc. I also learned more information about the internship pool of applications- would you believe me if I told you that they get over 10,000 applicants for their internship program? Well, believe it, because it's true! Crazy stuff. Mallory also took me around the floor and introduced me to a lot of the other members of the HR department, and everyone was so nice! I finished up some last minute things before I headed home for the day!

I already am so excited to head back tomorrow! Can't believe it is already Friday! :)

My first two days in The Big Apple!

The time has finally come- I am officially in New York City for the summer! Crazy how fast time flies!

Yesterday, my mom and I left via the Megabus in D.C. around 7:15 a.m. to head to the NYC! I slept most of the bus ride, and we arrived in New York at our scheduled time, 11:45 a.m.

Once we got there and got all of my luggage (I may have brought too much stuff- about 5 bags, woops!), our first task was trying to get a taxi! Very interesting to say the least. SO many taxis in New York, but not many that will stop (I'll get the hang of it eventually). After the taxi dropped us off at my NYU dorm, I got my temporary pass, and headed upstairs to my suite. Lets just say that a "suite" in New York housing is nothing compared to JMU suites. These dorm rooms are about the size of a jail cell- completely expected since I am in the city, but it makes me SO grateful for all of the wonderful housing offered at JMU! Before heading out to buy some things, we decided to grab food at this little bagel/pizza shop that is right outside of my dorm and got some decent pizza. I'm so happy that this place is here. It will be perfect to grab a bagel and some coffee at in the mornings. Afterwards, we headed over to a specific NYU building to pick up my NYU Summer pass. The line was about as long as the DMV....which we all know is hell. Luckily for me, I had submitted my picture ID online and after speaking up to the not-so-nice people working there, was able to skip all the mayhem and head right out, whew. Our next task was finding a store of some sort to buy groceries and other necessities- my dorm is seriously in the best location. I'm near everything I need. Trader Joe's and Whole Foods is right down the street, as well as pharmacies and tons of restaurants and cute little shops. We spent the rest of the night getting everything together for my place and decided to test out the subway system to find the two locations for my internships in the morning.

Today, I met my mom downstairs around 9 a.m. and grabbed an everything bagel with cream cheese at the shop downstairs and headed to the subway station! Luckily, the station is not even a 5-minute walk. I head on to the 14th St. and Union Square, hop on the Q line, and take it only 1 stop for Likeable Media and 2 stops for MTV. How awesome is that?! Likeable Media is right by the Empire State Building and MTV is in the heart of Times Square! I couldn't be more excited. After figuring out the subway, my mom and I headed out for some amazing shopping :). We stopped for a late lunch at the world famous Carnegie Deli- I got a delicious cheeseburger, my mom got a reuben, and we split a piece of cheesecake.
Probably the best cheesecake I have EVER had. We got the chance to shop a little more afterwards, before heading back to the station and my dorm, before my mom had to leave to head back home. I'll miss her so much and am so lucky she is letting me experience and have so many wonderful opportunities. Once she left, I headed out to the gym which is about a 5 minute walk from me (next to Trader Joe's), grabbed some sushi, and headed back to my dorm.

My orientation and first day is tomorrow at MTV at 10 a.m. and I am so so excited! I'll be sure to fill you in on how it goes!! :)

Time to relax now!
